Is it possible for you to let us know where in Tai Po Kau you saw the flycatcher?

Cheers,

Sept 16 had nice but hot walk in TPK.Not very many birds but
Highlights included:
V. good views of Pygmy Wren Babbler on entrance road.

Thanks

Sep 18, afternoon

blue-and-white flycatcher

kmike 18/09/2010 22:44

Some good birds - I hadn't heard of anyone getting the woodpecker for a while, and Chestnut-crowned Warbler is by far the earliest record - they are usually a mid-winter bird.

Cheers

Not so many birds were seen today.
But a Asian Paradise Flycatcher was just standing near the highway of Tai Po Road.

Bit quiet this afternoon- between 3.30 and 5.30 I only picked up on Eastern Crowned Warbler. Arctic Warbler and immature Sooty Flycatcher.  There was a mixed flock with some more warblers in it but I could only id the two species.

A COOL walk today after the cold front.

Nothing special in the first two bird waves on the access road - usual nuthatches, a number of scarlet-backed flowerpeckers, Minlas, Yellow- cheeked Tits and Rufous-capeed Babblers.

Another bird-wave encountered near the broken bridge on the blue walk was much more exciting. I spotted my first Black-naped monach of the season inside those fulvettas and Yellow-cheeked Tits. Another Dark-sided Flycatcher caught my eyes seconds after. Also i had brief sight of an Asian Paradise Flycatcher on the other side of the stream.
The bird of the day (and probably the bird of the month for me) was a Black-throated Tit mixed inside the wave. It was in superb adult plumage. Seen at a distance, i was wondering what it was and thought of an Australian species (Eastern Spinebill) at first glance. Lucky enough to get a few poor record photos before it disappered inside the bird wave.

For those visiting in the weekend, pay extra attention to every bird wave!

A good day for birding, nice weather and nice birds!

Highlights of today:

Asian Paradise Flycatcher
Japanese Paradise Flycatcher
( This might be also a APF. The dark tone of color might be due to the strong background light)

Orange-headed Thrush
(It originally stood near the path that we had not recognised it. It was flushed by us and flew away from us.)

No black-throated tit, but today is such a very good day for me.

21-Oct-2010

Quite quiet this afternoon.

Only an adult Black-naped Oriole was seen, which is a little bit unusual for Tai Po Kau.
Also a shy robin-sized bird discovered by CO Wong in the outdoor education centre, singing at times, which i suspect it was a lesser shortwing after listening to recordings on the web.

for those who are interested, the song was exactly like the one in this video i found on the web.

I heard lesser shortwing singing this evening along the access road to TPK.

I also heard lesser shortwing singing this afternoon (around 3:30pm) on the access road, but it was on the other side of the valley.

Could only pick up an Asian Paradise Flycatcher inside one of the bird-waves - seems the typhoon didn't bring in new birds to TPK.

As I went TPK too late, the sun is strong today. Not much bird,
but a Male Chestnut Bunting was very brillant!
And I think there were two Bay woodpeckers calling.

In search of warblers seen by PKK

Interested in the warblers PKK saw during weedend, I paid a visit to TPK today.

Only heard YB and a glimpse of one, nothing else. However, I was compensated to a large measure
by hearing and seeing a stunning male Bay woodpecker at quite short distance.

Cheers

Plumbeus redstart

PK's PR surely is a first seen this autumn according to my knowledge. Uncommon to rare for TPK
as well.

Really good find.
