Revision of “A Photographic Guide to the Birds of Hong Kong” (Final Call)

Since the publishing of “A Photographic Guide to the Birds of Hong Kong”, there have been a lot more photographic records of difficult species and even new species to Hong Kong. It seems to be the right time to start the first revision in order to provide more comprehensive information to birdwatchers and to maintain the high quality work which the Society always strives for.

We sincerely invite you to submit photos of bird species which are listed in Hong Kong Bird Checklist. If you would like to show your support, please read the following details:

Photo requirement
Photo size: Minium-1200 x 800 pixels, Maxium-As high as possible
File format: jpeg or tiff (file size less than 20Mb)
-Only digital image would be accepted. If you would like to contribute film or slide, please kindly help to scan them into digital format.
-Make sure the bird(s) you taken is/ are wild birds and taken in Hong Kong.

File naming (Important)
To avoid confusion and easy reference, please name the photo files in the following format which contains 4 fields.
3-digit-speciesNumber_PhotographerEnglishName_PhotoTakingDate_PhotoTakingLocation
For example:
Ann Chan took the photo of Chinese Bulbul at Kowloon Park on 8 Aug 2003. The photo should be named as: 271_Ann Chan_Aug2003_Kowloon Park
-For species number, please refer to the attached file: HKList2008.xls
-All file names should NOT contain Chinese character to avoid error in coding.
-If the date or location of photo taken is unknown, please put NA to represent. (e.g. 271_Ann Chan_NA_Kowloon Park). However, species number and English name of photographer must be included.
-Sufficient information of photo is one of the criteria to make the selection.

Submission
Please send us your masterpiece through one of the following methods
1.By email
Submit the photo(s) to photoguide2@yahoo.com.hk, each mail should not exceed 10Mb, please also indicate the photographer’s Chinese (if applicable) and English name for acknowledgement.
2.By post
Submit the photo(s) in CD/ DVD, and indicate the photographer’s Chinese (if applicable) and English name for acknowledgement on the disc. Send to Hong Kong Bird-watching Society Project Office, 14/F, Ruby Commercial Building, No. 480, Nathan Road, Yaumatei, Kowloon, Hong Kong (Photographic Guide Revision)
3.In person
Submit the photo(s) in CD/ DVD or transfer digital files to computer in HKBWS office during office hour (Mon – Fri 9:30am-1:00pm, 2:00pm-5:30pm; Sat 9:30am-1:00pm). Please call 2377-4387 to confirm in advance.

Notes to photographer:
-All submitted photos will not be used in other purpose, except the Revision of “A Photographic Guide to the Birds of Hong Kong”, unless photographer’s permission is granted.
-HKBWS reserve the right to edit the photos for a better publication quality.
-All submitted materials will not be returned.
-To reward your support, a copy of “A Photographic Guide to the Birds of Hong Kong” will be given to you if your photo is published in this revision.
-Deadline: 28 February 2009
