Hovering Common Kingfisher

Hovering Common Kingfisher

At about 11:30 this morning, a hovering Common Kingfisher at the pond near the entrance of the fence.

It stayed in the hovering position for about 10 seconds before diving into the pond and leaving with a fish in his mouth.

Please correct me if I am wrong, however to my understanding, the only kingfisher able to do this is the African Pied Kingfisher and that all Common Kingfisher dive branches etc. ..

Is this the first record of a hovering Common Kingfisher?

Wilson,
At times Common Kingfisher hover, before diving for a fish, during the hovering they also move at a very slow pace so it becomes difficult to judge from a distance, last year i managed to photograph one at Deep Bay (Mai Po).
