Some White-headed Munia have been feeding around gei wai #16/17 for the last week or so. Saw 12 today. Assume they are escaped birds, but not a common sight at Mai Po.

I think the White-headed Munia is released bird. I saw at least 40 to 60 White-headed Munia and few Black-headed Munia selling in mong kok bird street last month.

Why are the White-cheeked Starlings suggested as released birds? Is it because of the date?
White-cheeked Starlings have been breeding in Hong Kong for a few years, and there have been quite a few in the Deep Bay area this summer. Juveniles are now present. Last week I had an amazing count of 57 birds between Mai Po and Lok Ma Chau!

you must have misread John, it's White-headed Munia.

No Matthew, I was referring to the flock of 15 White-cheeked Starlings reported on 8th June.

The White-headed Munias are undoubtedly escapes and have been present in the munia flock at 16/17 for a few weeks.

A Pacific Reef Egret on the Gei wai #21 high-tide roost at lunchtime today. Not a common sight at the Reserve and a new 'Mai Po tick' for me.
