Fairy Pitta

Fairy Pitta

After a very quiet two weeks on Po Toi following the white-phase Asian Paradise Flycatcher, today one of those magical Po Toi moments.

A flash of blue in the bush and I'm face-to-face with a Fairy Pitta

The first views

a short walk to the stream

a bath

a good preen

and I'm ready to be photographed

Thanks all. One of my best moments on Po Toi.

Bit difficult to explain in words Wilson, but the bird acted rather like a young model on a photo shoot.
Nervous at first, covering up a bit, then more confident, goes off for a bath, dries off and combs her hair (feathers), then pops out on to a rock for a full view!

Obviously a female.

Another great Po Toi find for you!

Coo! What a Scorcher, as The Sun might say. A class bird if ever I saw one.

"Cor! Fancy a pitta that!"  Tasty bird in Po Toi outdoor bathing shocker.  Glossy photo exposé. Witness on scene reveals all.

I could probably go on... congratulations, Geoff.  I think you earned it.

My wife thinks it was trying to lead me astray. She's always thought there was more to my Po Toi visits than meets the eye.

I understand she was not seen today.

The sexy bird I mean, not my wife.

Just a minute, let me rephrase that

Maybe she was being chased by too many men, Geoff and became camera shy.  The Pitta, that is, not your wife.......... or perhaps?

Great found....

...
If i was away from home 2 nights a week years on end,.. And my excuse was bird watching ... What would any sane woman in HK think .. Given that there is no telephone communication at where i may be 'bird watching'???

Maybe its my bad reputation ....

Enough about that. This is meant to be a respectable website suitable for children.

That's why we all like it.

My reply to your response upon my unusual loss of wits.

You seems to be such a magnet for Pittas, if my words were near enough to the truth!

Thanks Mr Tai, but I'm not the magnet, it's that small stream on Po Toi.

I was able to show the Fairy Pitta to two other regular Po Toi watchers last Thursday, Aaron and Brenda Low, and I've just received Aaron's photos.
I think these are the best Fairy Pitta photos from Hong Kong

Note, these were taken last Thursday. The bird has not been seen since then.
