Wow. Stunning photos (as ever). Great record too. Lots of birds on Lamma at the moment it seems.

Thank you.... don't think there are really that many more here than elsewhere.... think is more a case of finding a good spot & see what turns up... yes definitely the highlight today, although, possibly about 50 thrush visits today & maybe 100 Red-billed starlings at one time

Excellent, love it ! Very good lighting.

BEAUTIFUL BIRD..!

Thank you both.
Some more pics from today..
Think may be a different bird as "white throat" is much more pronounced, although this may be caused by her bathing.

(apologies for quality as were taken at ISO 4000 due to being early evening & very low light)

Can you point out exactly the location you found the White-throated rock thrush?

Where's exactly Tai Shan West, near Yuen Shue O beach? opposite side of Tai Shan East?

I intend to come soon via ferry from Central, HK Island?

Your guidance would be appreciated.

Hi SL Tai.
Is Tai Shan West.. near Tai Shan Central. Opposite side to Tai Shan East.
Although problem is that my hide is on private property & is in use most of each day... I am however allowing others to use the hide.
The area where this bird is, is on other private property before it comes to my pond.... & the owners would not be happy about ppl walking around their property.
If you come up, I can show you an area close by that is accessible, but I cannot guarantee she will go there.
The issue with my pond & hide is that whilst I allow others to use it, it comes down to availability, & as I say is in use most of the time.
It has been set up specifically as a long term project & I am strict about its use.
There is no flash.... a tripod must be used, there is no going in front of the hide, there is no food baiting, there is no sound baiting... is simply sitting & waiting & understanding that the welfare of the birds is the priority as well as the long term project.
I sit for anything for 6-10hrs each day.
I would also suggest, that Tai Shan is no more special than any other north facing hill in HK... is just a matter of finding a good spot & creating the right environment.
I hope this has been of help

Really appreciate your hard work, Guy!

very good finds Mguy you have in Lamma!

BTW How about putting all the findings in a thread as "Lamma Winter" etc.?

Thanks for your kindness. For me, I'm no photographer. I am used to walk along forest paths and observe birds. Observing birds within a tent's not quite my cup of tea. Waiting for a rarity I haven't seen before, yes.

Anyhow, thanks a lot.

Could you suggest any other places where I can bird with binoculars. I don't mind to walk a long way; only birds matter.

Thanks again.

Hi.... there are several spots on Lamma that I think you will find quite good.... & if you do come over, let me know &I can point you in the right direction.... if you want to come up to TSW, I have built a 3km trail over the hills which haven't been walked for maybe 20 years... in the early morning the hills are alive with sounds that I can never interpret, & with my lousy eyesight can never see. I wld be happy to show you how to get up there & then leave you to it.... as for the hide.... we can chat about it on the day... has been veery quiet over the last week during the day, but with the cold front, & with lack of rain, should start o get more species coming in at all times

.. seems there are some good birds... although in my hide location my variety is limited... but I think there are more to be found...... the sightings thing is a possibility.... I have the dates with photos showing the birds I am seeing in blog form in FB Group I set up "Lamma Island Bird World"..... together with notes about the weather & bird rough time occurrences... I could try & do similar in HKBWS... is just finding the time... will put some thought into it... thanks
