As someone just coming into digital SLR photography of birds, and keen to continue to pursue some digiscoping too, I'm very interested to know what equipment (lens + camera) people have used to take the frankly magnificent photos posted nearly every day.

Many, if not most, photographers post these every time (they must after all be the same for every shot in a fair number of cases, so they are just like a signature really).

Could I therefore request that people post these details every time, or as often as possible. It helps us to know what is possible with different levels of equipment, though skill and determination are the biggest factors in getting great photos I fully recognise.

Sorry if it makes posting more of a drag.

And, from a purely birding point of view (which is what I really am, ie a birder , not a photographer) it's great that nearly every one posts dates and locations now. Well done to Forrest and others for their work on that.  It really does make a difference.

TBob has certainly established his equipment as the digiscoper's ensemble of choice, it seems to me.

If you are going to venture into the world of Digiscoping, you should realise that the success rate is relatively low to start. Of course it has the advantage of relatively low initial cost, especially for birders who already own a scope.

For me the extreme focal length that digiscoping affords, over 2000mm, allows you to see birds in a different light, you are really able to see in detail the beauty of birds.

Worldwide, digiscoping has had a resurgence of interest and there are a number of forums where beginners are welcome to ask questions.

Neil Fifer, a HKBWS member, held a 2 day seminar earlier this year and a large number of society members attended, maybe he could run the seminar again?

If the HKBWS BBS could have a sub-section under Bird photography called Digiscoping, it could possibly create interest and answer questions for Chinese speaking members. Avian Watch Asia has a BBS that has a section for posting digiscoping pictures and another section for digiscoping equipment.
