Himalayan Swiftlet

Himalayan Swiftlet

A pair of Himalayan Swiftlets spent most of Monday afternoon on Po Toi, feeding on insects brought out by the rain in the valley just past the sister's cafe. Here are some photos

I should have got better photos than these but my photography skills are not good enough for such a fast moving bird.

The first two photos shown how different this bird can appear when viewed against a dark background (photo 1) and a light background such as the sky (photo 2). Against a dark background, the underparts appear quite pale brown, against a light background they appear quite dark grey. I have noticed this before with this species.

The valley just past the sister's cafe is the best area on Po Toi to see swifts, swallows and martins. The is the second year in succession I have seen Himalayan Swiftlet in late May - perhaps it is a regular late spring migrant.
