Tsim Bei Tsui, 24th Oct 2011

ID MK IV +  800mm

(Thanks to Martin Hale for tipping me off that he'd seen a flock of Amur Falcons overflying MPNR at dusk on the 23rd, they were  heading towards Tsim Bei Tsui. At first light I could find only two birds.)

Thanks to to all for your comments...

Irene, it looks like your bird is a different individual to the two I saw.

Great Shots

Yes, John, they look different. Mine looks like a juvenile as it is borwner on upperpart with buffy-edged feathers.

Ouch! my target bird for Lam Tsuen this autumn (and the last three autumns!)

Terrific shots - and a great bit of fieldcraft by Martin. - How birds went over Mai Po Martin?

Cheers
Mike

Mike, 14 Amur Falcons seen together in a thermal towards the northern end of Mai Po at 1730 on the 23rd. Since they failed to land at the southern end of Mai Po it seemed reasonable to assume that they would roost at TBT. I had a dental appointment I couldn't blow off on the Monday morning, so was very pleased to hear from John that he had indeed found some. A couple were still present on the Monday afternoon and giving terrific views and photographs. Team work, what we need more of in HK!
