This common snipe was busy probing her elongated bill into the soft mud picking up worms and insects.  All of a sudden she stopped.  Posed herself at the muddy marshland alongside a water pond at Long Valley, her prominent yellowish stripes run along the back reflected the afterglow from the setting sun in the evening of January 16th.  If she would continue meditating, I would sneak up on her take out a tape and measure her extended bill to see if it is 2.2 times the length of her head.
