Plaintive Cuckoo; 24th February 2013, Pak Tin Kong, Lam Tsuen

Large Hawk Cuckoo also calling, as were Greater Coucal.  Seems to be earlier calls this spring, for Lam Tsuen anyway.

I get the impression there are fewer Large Hawk Cuckoos than usual this year - has anyone else noticed this?

We have just had a Chestnut-winged Cuckoo or Red-winged Crested Cuckoo (Clamator coromandus)in the garden. Heard and seen. Cracking bird :-)

First Large Hawk Cuckoo I heard in Sai Kung was 28th March but regularly since then. My first Plaintive Cuckoo in SK was heard was 23rd March. Added Chestnut-winged today, April 9th - in our garden.

There do seem to be less Large Hawk Cuckoos, I haven't had any waking me up at night this year, and most birds I hear have been off at a distance.  Last year I regularly saw them flying and calling around Pak Tin Kong, I haven't yet this year.

10 April 2013,

Hodgson's Hawk Cuckoo calling near Tin Liu Ha.  I think it was heard in TPK a couple days ago.

Rather late, I guess, but first Indian cuckoo calling near us in Sai Kung today. 25.4.13
