9th January 2014 - Kam Tin River near Kam Sheung Road MTR Station

Four photos of today's mystery pipit, seen near the Long-billed Plover.

I think it's a Blychards Pipit.

But more seriously. The median covert markings look more like Richards (as according to field guides). But the whole jizz seems not very Richards-like - kind of dumpy, short tail, and a really weird beak shape. The hindclaw is not short, but also not as long as the very long ones seen on many Richards (but, as discussed in previous posts, there is an area of overlap). I'm not very familiar with Blyth's in the field, but it doesn't look like a Richards to me. Supercilium is short and thin, like Blyth's.

Not very clear of the pipit in flight. Hope it helps...
Is it very difficult to differentiate between juvenile Blyth's and Richard's?
