At last Saturday afternoon, I saw two Blue Magpies fighting with snake! After few minutes later, all of them escaped. Does the Blue Magpies have a strong nest defense behavior, and will attack intruders mercilessly until they retreat?

I don't think they were protecting a nest. They were trying to kill the snake and eat it.
