Long Valley
The poor Scaly-breasted Munia would never be aware that this Heron nearby was a killer. It first drowned the Munia to death, then swallowed it without hesitation!
I am not sure if this is a normal behaviour of the CPH; it was the 1st time I witnessed it !
The photos were taken by my birder friend from Beijing.

You may revise the article on Chinese Pond Heron in Wikipedia as it only mentions fish, crab and insects as food for CPH.
Great photos!

The Handbook of the Birds of the World (online version) states that the diet consists of:

"Small frogs, worms, aquatic invertebrates, fish, molluscs, worms, some terrestrial insects and even small birds".

這充分反影了大自然的定律: 弱肉強食!
