Subject: Pale-legged or Sakhalin Leaf Warbler? [Print This Page]

The Avifauna suggests that Sakhalin Leaf Warbler is later in autumn than Pale-legged Leaf Warbler although not by much.
My records for Pale-legged Leaf Warbler types this autumn on Po Toi are as follows

5th Sep to 20th Sep - 3 birds
21st Sep to 5th Nov - none
6th Nov to 14th Nov - 2 birds

Here is the latest bird this week, taken on Tuesday 14th November

Can it be positively identified as either species?
By comparison with my photos of September birds, this bird has colourless legs and feet, the September birds were distinctly pink, particularly the feet.

Geoff, do you have a photo which shows the primary projection and tertials better?

Paul

This is the only other photo I have.

Sorry, nothing to go on without a picture showing wing structure.

Also worth noting that whilst Sakhalin appears to migrate later, Pale-legged is the only one of the two which has been trapped in winter.

OK, thanks Paul.
