Subject: Black-eared Kites at Clearwater Bay [Print This Page]

I have a pair of resident Black kites that spend most of their time cruising the bay and sitting in a couple of specific trees. Recently they have become very territorial and constantly drive off passing magpies. Today a Common buzzard passed too close and immediately one bird took off from its perch and dived at the buzzard repeatedly moving it further and further away from "their" tree. I was surprised at the size difference between the kite and the buzzard, the former being markedly larger.

This is the aggressor flying by and then on its perch.

Common they may be but they are great to watch.
