Hong Kong-flagged Avocet D1 in Taiwan

Hong Kong-flagged Avocet D1 in Taiwan

We have received a report of a Hong Kong-flagged Avocet in Taiwan. Photos of the bird can be seen at: http://nc.kl.edu.tw/bbs/showpost.php?p=663504&postcount=14
This is the first resighting of a HK-flagged Avocet in Taiwan, but we have previously had a sighting of one of our birds on the coast of Bohai Bay in Tianjin, during October 2008.

The bird in Taiwan (flag D1) was flagged at Mai Po on 30th November 2011. This is the first resighting.
It is surprising that it should turn up at a similar time of year but at a different site, perhaps suggesting that there may be some flexibility in wintering sites or migration routes between years. There is clearly still a lot to learn about the migration of shorebirds on the East Asian Australasian Flyway.
