Northern Hawk-cuckoo 北鷹鵑

Northern Hawk-cuckoo

Mau Ping, Ma On Shan

A possibly juvenile/first-winter Northern Hawk-cuckoo found in Mau Ping, Sai Kung today. It is separated from confusing species, Hodgson's Hawk-cuckoo, with its hooded appearance, streaks on upper throat (barely seen from this photo) and brownish tone to the pale tail bar above the dark broad subterminal bar.

The location is near the damaged old village house at the midway when you walk from Mui Tsz Lam, Ma On Shan to Sai Kung direction. It will be the fourth record in HK if accepted.
