Excellent photos.  I was also inside the hide on the day when the photo is taken.  Congratulation.

The first photos in each set show the bird in defensive pose. I hope it was not someone in the hide that disturbed the bird. Please try not to disturb the birds when you are in the hide - these individuals are very close and may be sensitive to noise or to people suddenly appearing through the windows.

It seems the birds did later calm down and start feeding again, though.

Dear James4J,

Did they eat something like snail? It looks likely they ate a gastropod in one of the photos. Pls kindly advise.

many thanks,

It was this chick's parents who asserted their sovereignty over the territory against the painted snipe.  This snipe was bullied by the chick's parents for at least 3 hours finally it couldn't stand anymore and pretended to fight with them.  At the same time, another male painted snipe flew from 50 meters away showed his support to his neighbour.  This was really amazing.  We were able to see two male painted snipe joined together to scare the black-winged stilt.  Having seen the actions by the snipe, the black-winged stilt retreated and disappeared.

However, this chick was found dead on saturday for unknown reason.
