[Hong Kong] Our Air Our Health Digning Petition

Our Air Our Health Digning Petition

Our Air Our Health Digning Petition

We are assisting a new NGO called Clean Air Network (CAN) to circulate a petition for cleaner air in Hong Kong. As air pollution is Hong Kong's biggest health crisis killing 3 people per day and leaving us with only 41 days per year of healthy, breathable air, CAN's mission is to educate the public about the health impacts of air pollution and encourage Hong Kongers to speak out in favor of better air quality management. By bringing together and amplifying the voices of individuals, groups and organizations, CAN seeks to drive policy change at the highest levels. The government is presently consulting the public on whether and how to revise HK’s air quality for the first time in 22 years. To show the government we care about OUR HEALTH, OUR AIR, we urge you to sign the petition http://hongkongcan.org/eng/join-can/. Your support is crucial!

Please do sign this petition and ask all your friends to do the same - this is the biggest opportunity we have had in 20 years to support cleaner air.

Please bear in mind that there are many people who are opposed to tougher conditions for cleaner air - especially the transport companies (buses, ferries, airlines, shipping companies and the ports)  - which have polluted our air for years and reaped the profits of burning cheap dirty fuels or using old vehicles with dirty engines - they will urge the Government to keep things as they are.

By signing the petition you offer support to EPD and senior Government ministers to take more proactive steps to clean up, especially forcing the polluters to clean up, or pay up.

In the mean-time we are all suffering every day. to find out how please check out the Clean Air Network website www.hongkongcan.org or the Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/cleanairnetwork

Cheers
Mike

PS I should also note that I am currently Development Manager of CAN, and would be happy to provide more information or answer questions.
