Waterfowl Count December 2001 Summary Report
The December 2001 waterbird count took place on the 16th, and coverage of both the Ramsar Site and the Deep Bay area was complete.
A total of 38,457 waterbirds were recorded in the Deep Bay area (including Fu Tian), of which 25,129 were present in the Ramsar Site. Ducks and grebes easily formed the largest proportion, constituting nearly 50% of birds present in the bay. The total number of ducks involved was 18,987.
Gulls and terns, at 5,917 birds, comprised 15.4%, while waders at 5,251 birds comprised 13.7%. Ardeids numbered 3,736, or 9.7%.
