(Sorry, no photos!) The main distinguishing mark is the white patches on the sides of the rump. There is a dark strip down the middle of the rump (when seen from above) and the rest is white. Is this a crested goshawk I am seeing? If so, why don't any field guides show this white as it is the main thing I can see when it is flying.
