For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

上圖 –紅腳銀鷗(Vega Gull),肩羽較灰,咀較黃。 下圖– Lesser Black-backed Gull,是銀鷗中一亞種。

The pale-mantled large gull with the Grey Herons is, indeed, a Yellow-legged Gull Larus cachinnans mongolicus. The combination of pale mantle, clean white head and structure identify it as this taxon. Vega Gull L. vegae, the other suggestion, is very rare in HK, and the structure is not so large and bulky as this. In addition, in the middle of winter it usually has a lot of brownish streaking on the head and neck. 'mongolicus', as it is generally referred to, is probably best regarded as a full species, 'Larus mongolicus'. As for the dark-backed large gull, it would be helpful to have details of where and when it was photographed (it's obviously not in Asia, and is not any species that we get in HK). Geoff

Hi! There is a caption under the large, black-backed gull saying that it was photographed in New Zealand - in which case, it's probably L. dominicanus - Kelp/Dominican/Southern Black-backed gull (Karoro in Maori). Cheers Richard Bacon, Wellington NZ
