We saw two pied kingfishers at TBT today. They were very lovely. They frequently stationed for a while in the air (probably locating preys from above the water) and then dived into the water for fishes. The minutes spectacular was unforgottable. Is pied kingfisher the only "big" bird stationed in the air?

not really, actually common kingfisher can also do that, but they don't often show this skill, I only saw once before. Other than Kingfisher, raptors like Black-shouldered Kite and Kestrel can also do this
