I guess you can tell from the shape, general coloration, and general markings that it is a phylloscopus warbler. The most numerous one in HK in late Sept and early October is Arctic Warbler, and that's what this is, though the shadow in the shot makes it a little difficult to detect some key features - they are all there though. Firstly there's the long-bodied, long-winged structure. Then there's the mainly pale bill,with a dark mark on the lower mandible. Also the shape of the supercilium in front of the eye (stopping on the lores) separates from Greenish Warblers. Of course there's no hint of crown stripes, and only one rather indistinct wingbar, with no evidence of tertial markings (though that really isn't fully visible). Then there's a hint of streaking below - not really clear here, due to shadow, and variable anyway, but often the best indication on birds seen from below, as so many are. Wish I could get shots like this. Mike Turnbull
