I photographed this White Wagtail at Tai Po Kau this morning (4th August )around 11.00am near the water storage tank, just past the wardens hut. I was surprised to see it as I didn't expect to see one until around September, and certainly not there. Is this a regular in this area? Neil.

This race of White wagtail - leucopsis is a breeding bird in Hong Kong and therefore not unusual during the summer months in a variety of habitats, especially close to water. Cheers Mike

Mike, thanks for that. I'm amazed though that I hadn't seen any for the last two months and in two days last week I saw one at Tai Po and 2 at Mai Po . Where do they go to breed? Neil.

Mike, I keep tripping over wagtails now. Back at Mai Po Monday and Tuesday saw a juvenile white wagtail on the boardwalk through the waterlily pond and an adult from Hide 1. They must be breeding in the area. Neil.

White Wagtail breed in small numbers around fishponds, so no surprises that they are at Mai Po. Cheers Mike
