Photographed yesterday at MPNR. At first I thought Curlew Sandpiper but the color didn't look right. Could it be a Dunlin? Neil 4th,October,2005 MPNR Hong Kong,China. Olympus 7070wz plus Swarovski ATS80HD scope and 20-60x eyepiece http://www.pbase.com/neilfif11/image/50279514.jpg

It could. The black spots on the belly are the remains of the breeding plumage. Also the bill is shorter than Curlew Sandpiper Cute picture. Cheers Mike K

It is a Dunlin, but it is juvenile not and adult with reatined summer plumage. The small black spots on the belly are typical of a juvenile, as are the dark throat and the narrow pale fringes to the lower scapulars.
