There are no accepted records of Pine Bunting in Hong Kong. However, we are far from the known wintering areas and it wuld be unlikely to appear here. According to the Synopsis of the Avifauna of China it winters only north of the Yangze Basin, so would be unlikely to occur here. Having said that Pine Bunting is a known vagrant, and has occurred in the UK. However, this bird looks to be in good condition, with no obvious feather damage. Please could you tell us whereon Tai Mo Shan this pic was taken. Cheers Mike K

Dear Mike, We found the Pine Bunting was near the radar station, at the abandoned hillfire observatory, there is a small road to a pumping station. There we also found: blue rock- thrush, male, daurian redstart, female & male, Bill.
