Sea near Po Toi 蒲台島附近海域 8/4/2006 (taken from 15:15 to 15:16) D2x + Sigma 120-300mm + 1.4x Would anyone please help to identify this owl? It was really far away from us and the images here are already 1:1 crop of 6 consecutive images...

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

This looks very much like Brown Hawk Owl to me. Why? 1. Uniform brown upperwings and long banded tail (centre top). 2. Absence of facial disc, and white feathering around the bill and prominent eyes (centre top) 3. Distinctively streaked underparts (upper left & right, bottom centre & right) 4. Bulging secondaries consistent with flight illustration in old Japanese guide 5. Slender body shape not consistent with the solid bulk of Eagle Owl. Excellent! - a new bird for me . . . if anyone can tell which of the Hawk Owls it is . . . any thoughts on this greatly appreciated. A great set of pix of a distant flying bird from a rocking boat - good job Issac! Cheers Mike K
