For those who have not seen Chinese Egret A Chinese Egret was seen at Luk Keng freshwater marsh at about 8:00 am on 16 May. It fed around the open water near the Luk Keng village side. NOT the grassy area where you can see Cattle Egrets. Good luck Captain

Interesting record, Captain. Pls make sure you submit it at the end of the year for inclusion in the HKBR. As it is at such an unusual location, please also provide some details regarding why you identified it as Chinese Egret, and the habitat it was in. Many thanks, Geoff

Yellow pencil bill, white bird More than two breeding plumes on the head And one important point, the presence of Great, Intermediate, Little and Cattle Egrets can allow a comparison of the features A low resolution picture was taken and can be sent to you for confirmation

Captain and I again saw the Swinhoe's (Chinese) Egret at Luk Keng on Tuesday afternoon. It was feeding on the rocky parts of Starling Inlet before the tide came in. Then flew onto the freshwater marsh to roost. While I was watching it a Black Baza flew over also - not bad for mid May! Cheers Mike
