A juvenile Tiger Shrike have been seen in Sha Tin Pass. It may be the earliest record of Tiger Shrike in HK. There also have a flock of thirty Striated Yuhina.

| No problem ... At the first moment, i noticed a bulbul-size's bird in the small tree and i have only seen the tail of the bird. It wagged its rufous tail. After a moment, i have seen it clearly and it showed the scaled head, mantle, breast and flank. It did not have black mask on the head. The wing-covet was rufous brown. For the underpart, the lower belly to vent are pale yellowish. For the bare part, i just focused on its bill that have the pale base and black tip. It usually hid itself and searching-like behaviour in the small tree. Overall, the appearance of the bird was strong that different from the slim body of Brown Shrike (i think !!!). I have seen it at 12:05pm in the North of lower side of the Sha Tin Pass Valley(toward Pok Hong Estate). The area is covered with small tree and have a stream (15 metres from the location) ... could it be the juvenile Brown Shrike or it really was a juvenile Tiger Shrike (as your experience ! ). George

| In the past, when you mentioned about Sha Tin Pass, I throught you were referring to the Kowloon side near Tsz Wan Shan. So in fact the site is in the Sha Tin side. Is the site near the Girl Guide Campsite? Sounds strange to me as a site for rare birds because there is a very large construction site nearby.

Sha Tin Pass can be separated into two side (my thought !). The South side is exactly refer to the Kowloon side near Tsz Wan Shan. Another side is the North side toward to the Pok Hong Estate(Sha Tin side). Lynx: You have mentioned the Girl Guide Campsite Where is it My birding route is mainly between the South and North side. I usually start at the Sha Tin Pass Road near the temple and walk along to the top of the valley. For the Tiger Shrike, i have seen it on the North side route. If the society want to have outing to the Sha Tin Pass, i would like to be the leader of the activity. The self-made STP Map is for the reference.
