Despite the unsuitable tide I had to take advantage of the good weather to see what was happening at Mai Po after my absence of a week. I arrive at # 16/17 late in the day around 4.00pm as I wanted to miss the heat. It was around 33c anyway . There were migrants already there when I arrived , mostly Greenshanks and Redshanks with few Marsh Sands. The usual BW Stilts and a few Pied Avocets were also hanging around. As the time approached the high tide around 6.00pm more birds arrived until there were about 500 in front of Hide 3, inlcuding, spotted redshanks, terek sands, curlew sands, pacific golden plovers, curlew, whimbrel, grey plovers, greenshanks, marsh sands, one wood sand, and in the distance an oriental pratincole. The air was clear and it was a beautiful sunset. Well worth the visit.Neil. MPNR, Hong Kong, China 08/05/05 Olympus 7070wz plus Swarovski STS80HD scope and Sw 30x eyepiece

Beautiful photos. The New Territories have been stunning the last couple of days. I look up to Tai Mo Shan from my garden and you can see the old tea terraces near the summit. Strangely, from my garden I have been hearing Chinese Francolin calling for the last few days, I am well away from the hills. I don't know if it is the clear air or a coincidence but it's the first time in two years. I'm at least 600m from the nearest Francolin habitat. Pat Sin Leng is just gorgeous in the evening sun on my drive back from work. I wish it was like this all the time (a bit cooler would be nice though!) Keep up the good work, Neil! I may brave the heat this weekend and visit Mai Po again.

Neil, welcome back just before the season is leaving us. I like the sunset colour of your photos. Thanks for sharing.
