A pleasant summer walk at Lion Rock Country Park (North slope of Beacon Hill)
Many forest species have been seen there.
Slaty-legged Crake – heard
Emerald Dove – one, possibly female or juvenile
Hodgson’s Hawk Cuckoo - heard
Great Barbet - heard
Grey-chinned Minivet – 12+
Chestnut Bulbul – 6+
Mountain Tailorbird – 2 heard
Brownish-flanked Bush Warbler – one singing in the bush, recorded apart from Tai Mo Shan area
Rufous-capped Babbler – 6+
Red-billed Leiothrix – 1
Silver-eared Mesia – 2
Striated Yuhina – overall more than 20 in Lion Rock Country Park in several groups, some juveniles have been seen
Black-throated Laughingthrush – 2+
Black Kite - 1
Fork-tailed Sunbird - 1
Great Tit – 1
Surprisingly no any Greater Necklaced Laughingthrush has been seen.
It should be a good site and quite quiet for finding forest birds however illegal immigrant is a problem in there for our safety. Winter is much more productive.
If you are a forest bird’s searcher, it’s an excellent place and you can try to go there in the public holidays.
