Japanese Quail is a very good record for Kam Tin. Well done bond! My records during September have included: Intermediate Egret - 2 on 14/9 Cattle Egret - peak 61 on 22/9 Chestnut Bittern - 1 on 15/9 Yellow Bittern - 1 on 12/9, 1 on 27/9 Greater Painted-snipe - present throughout but scattered, peak count 11 on 26/9 is certainly an underestimate. Nesting male found on 22/9 Black-winged Stilt - 6 on 15/9, 7 on 22/9 Little Ringed Plover - peak count 30 on 12/9 Grey-headed Lapwing - peak 5 on 26/9 Pintail/Swinhoe's Snipe - 24 on 15/9 Common Snipe - 1 on 26/9 (my first here this autumn and surprisingly late!) Long-toed Stint - 1 on 12/9 Red Turtle Dove - 1 on 14/9 and 15/9 Asian Barred Owlet - 1 on 22/9 Black-capped Kingfisher - 1 on 22/9 (at Sha Po) Grey Wagtail - 1 on 26/9 Black-winged Cuckoo-shrike - 1 on 26/9, 1 on 27/9 (different birds) Brown Shrike - 1 on 15/9, 1 on 27/9 Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler - 1 on 15/9, 2 on 26/9 Oriental Reed Warbler - 10 on 26/9 Black-browed Reed Warbler - 3 on 26/9 Dusky Warbler - 5 on 26/9 Dark-sided Flycatcher - 1 on 22/9 Yellow-breasted Bunting - 1 on 26/9 Black-naped Oriole - 1 on 15/9 White-shouldered Starling - 8 on 22/9, 13 on 26/9 Daurian Starling - 1 on 22/9 White-cheeked Starling - 1 on 22/9, 2 on 27/9

I visited Kam Tin both days again this weekend - the trip on Sunday to look for a possible Blyth's Pipit I'd found on Saturday morning. Unfortunately I haven't been able to relocate the bird and I'm not sure that I saw enough to rule out the possibility of a sinensis Richard's Pipit (although it was clearly different from a typical richardi) Other highlights over the two days were: Saturday (7 Oct) Grey-headed Lapwing x18 Black-winged Stilt x2 Bonelli's Eagle x1 Common Kestrel x1 Red Turtle Dove x1 Red-rumped Swallow x1 White-cheeked Starling x6 White-shouldered Starling several small flocks Zitting Cisticola x2 Bright-capped Cisticola x1 Asian Brown Flycatcher x4 Arctic Warbler x3 Yellow-browed Warbler x2 Also a Javan Mongoose - surprisingly the first I've seen here. Sunday (8/10) Black-crowned Night Heron x54 White-cheeked Starling x32 Plaintive Cuckoo x1 Yellow-breasted Bunting x1
