Farewell "Fung Lok Wai"

Notices of a "writ of possession" have appeared at Fung Lok Wai. The effective date is October 28, 2003. The developer's marker flags have appeared on the entrance road near Ng Uk Tsuen. It seems that Fung Lok Wai, as we have known it for the past few years, is about to change. Although the developer has pledged to maintain most of the site for wildlife, the relatively free access we bird watchers have enjoyed is about to become a thing of the past. Fung Lok Wai has entertained a good number of "quality birds" in recent years. It seems to be the foothold for Eurasian Collared Doves in Hong Kong, and can boast dozens of Red Trutle Doves, hundreds of starlings during the migration season. Black-winged Kite, Black Kites, Ospreys taking fish, Black Drongo catching dragonfly, who could forget the two Hoopoes that spent most of the winter there and a magnificent male Oriental Plover that showed itself to the Society outing last April... http://www.geocities.com/csooso2003/funglockwai/0writ-01.jpg http://www.geocities.com/csooso2003/funglockwai/1cormorants.jpg http://www.geocities.com/csooso2003/funglockwai/2hundreds-of-cormorants. jpg http://www.geocities.com/csooso2003/funglockwai/flw-02.jpg http://www.geocities.com/csooso2003/funglockwai/flw-03.jpg http://www.geocities.com/csooso2003/funglockwai/flw-04.jpg http://www.geocities.com/csooso2003/funglockwai/hoopoes-01.jpg http://www.geocities.com/csooso2003/funglockwai/oblackdrongo-01.jpg http://www.geocities.com/csooso2003/funglockwai/redturtledoves-02.jpg
