RESERVE OFFICER Based at Mai Po Nature Reserve, New Territories, Hong Kong THE ROLE The Reserve Officer will report to the Reserve Manager, and his/her duties will include: * Coordinating and implementing ecological monitoring and research projects whose results will lead to improvements in the management and conservation of Mai Po Nature Reserve (MPNR). This will include actively seeking funds and, or establishing cooperative links with educational institution and others to implement such projects. * Monitor the work of the Mai Po Field Staff to ensure that relevant recommendations from the monitoring and research projects are implemented. * Increase awareness of the ecological importance of the Reserve by a), leading guided tours and giving presentations to decision makers, media, public and others, and b), through writing and publishing scientific reports and popular articles. In carrying out the above duties, the successful applicant will need to work irregular hours and therefore a flexible working hour arrangement will apply. THE PERSON A committed field ecologist preferably with experience in waterbird survey and wetland management. Advantages will also include an ability to design and implement field ecology projects, analyzing and making practical recommendations from the data collected, and communicating the results to a wide audience. Good verbal and written communication skills are therefore essential.
