The Department of Health is working on rapid diagnostic tests for the West Nile fever, which can be transmitted from birds to man via mosquitoes. The FEHD worried that the House Crow population in Hong Kong might increase the risk of spreading the West Nile virus.

「【 明 報 專 訊 】 香 港 繼 面 對 登 革 熱 和 日 本 腦 炎 威 脅 後 ， 另 一 種 同 樣 透 過 雀 傳 蚊 、 蚊 傳 人 的 奪 命 西 尼 羅 病 毒 ， 亦 有 機 會 傳 入 香 港 ， 食 環 署 解 釋 ， 因 為 可 傳 播 西 尼 羅 熱 的 致 倦 庫 蚊 ， 亦 是 本 港 常 見 的 主 要 蚊 子 ， 加 上 可 帶 此 病 毒 的 烏 鴉 數 量 近 年 增 多 ， 增 加 傳 播 風 險 ， 該 署 正 做 準 備 收 集 資 料 ， 防 患 於 未 然 。 據 悉 ， 衛 生 署 正 試 驗 實 驗 室 快 速 診 斷 西 尼 羅 病 毒 的 技 術 。 」
