Stop the Dolphin Slaughter in Taiji 停止日本太地屠殺海豚

Please Help to Stop the Dolphin Slaughter in Taiji, Japan
On the 8th October 2005, an international day of protest has been
organized against the killing of dolphins and small whales in Japanese
waters. Hundreds of thousands of environmental organization representatives
from around the world will be outside the Japanese embassies that day
to take part in a peaceful demonstration against the continuation of
these hunts.
Every year, over 20,000 dolphins and small whales are killed in 'drive'
hunts, hand-held harpoon and cross-bow hunts. In recent years, these
hunts have increasingly come under international scrutiny, prompting
concern from bodies such as the International Whaling Commission (IWC), on
both welfare and conservation grounds. In the last 20 years, over
400,000 small cetaceans have been killed in Japanese waters.
One form of these hunts is the 'drive hunt', in which dolphins and
small whales are rounded up using boats and driven into shallow water where
they are killed for their products. During the annual hunt in Taiji and
Futo, most of the dolphins are stabbed on the spot, before being loaded
onto trucks, sometimes still conscious, to be processed into meat and
fertilizer. Young dolphins are ‘saved’ for the captive industry that
is the primary motivation for the hunts. Many fisherman have admitted
that they would not continue the drive fisheries if it were not for the
high prices offered by the captivity industry for wild dolphins.
Please help with our campaign to bring an end to these hunts by sending
a letter of protest to the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong. Let
the Japanese government know that you object to the drive fisheries
because: 1) the method of killing is unacceptably inhumane; 2) captured
dolphins are sentenced to lives of depravation in captivity. See attached
for an example letter and contact details for the Consulate-General of
Japan in Hong Kong. We hope to gather hundreds of protest letters to
show the support of Hong Kong public to end the Taiji dolphin slaughter.
We would appreciate if you can also email (info@hkdcs.org) or fax
(2357-1670) the copy of your protest letter to HK Dolphin Conservation
Society before sending it out to Consulate General Office, so that we can
pass this information to the organizers of Japan Dolphin Day. Let us
know if you have any question about this campaign. We appreciate your
effort to stop the dolphin slaughter, and to make our oceans a better
place for the whales and dolphins.

2005年10月8日是國際反對日本屠殺海豚及小型鯨類的抗議日。全球數以萬計的� 藿珓O護組織代表將會到當地的日本領事館進行和平抗議行動，希望可以迫使日本 停止捕殺海豚。
現時，每年在日本有超過二萬隻海豚及小型鯨類被漁船圍捕、魚叉及船頭捕獵等 方法捕殺而死。近年來，日本的海豚獵殺行動已逐漸引起國際間的監察；而這些捕 獵行動所帶來的動物權益及生態保育問題，令到愈來愈多的國際組織關注，包括國 際捕鯨協會(IWC)。在過去20年，已有超過40萬隻鯨豚動物在日本水域被殺。
其中一種捕獵海豚方法名為「漁船圍捕」，多艘漁船會以漁網把海豚及小型鯨類 圍起，再把牠們趕進淺水區域，在灣內的漁民便會把海豚殺死，用作日後製成各類 產品。在日本太地(Taiji) 及Futo，大部分海豚都會即場被屠宰，有些被宰殺時仍然清醒。之後，牠們便會被 運上貨車，被製成各類肉類製品及肥料。另外，一些年青的海豚則會被「救起」， 被賣往各個水族館作表演用途。這正是推動海豚捕殺的主因，很多漁民都承認若不 是水族館行業付出高價，他們不會繼續捕殺海豚。
請參與我們這個抗議行動，以使日本停止屠殺。你可寄一封信給日本駐香港領事 館，讓日本政府知道你反對他們以漁船圍捕海豚因為︰1) 屠殺方法非常不人道；2) 被捉去的海豚將會一生被困於水族館中。附件是一封抗議信的樣本及駐香港日本領 事館的聯絡資料。我們希望至少收集到幾百封信，以表示香港市民都支持日本停止 海豚屠殺。

Dear Mr. Kitamura,
I am writing to express my sincere concerns about the continued hunting of dolphins and small whales in the waters of Japan, including their live capture for aquaria. Over 20,000 dolphins and small whales are cruelly killed every year in hunting operations in Japanese waters. The extreme cruelty of the drive fisheries, coupled with the intelligent and social nature of their prey, makes these operations all the more unacceptable. Further, given the fact that only a miniscule minority of citizens actually participates in the hunts and that dolphin meat is considered unhealthy and is not consumed by large segments of the population, I would consider that the benefits of ending the hunts, especially in terms of human health and positive attention your government would receive from the Japanese public and compassionate people around the world, would far outweigh any associated costs.
Once again, I respectfully urge the Japanese government to take immediate action to avert the upcoming drive fisheries and to end the killing of the dolphins and small whales by working to ban the hunt altogether.

日漁民屠殺鯨豚 全球護豚組織抗議
【明報專訊】每年10月是日本漁民捕捉鯨豚的季節，對海豚和鯨魚來說，是苦難的 開始。日本漁民會用鐵枝等工具把鯨豚驅趕上岸，然後即時屠殺或賣到水族館。本 月8日(下周六)，包括香港海豚保育學會等全球逾萬個保護鯨豚組織，首次聯合向 日本政府抗議，要求停止屠殺行為。
每年逾2萬海豚小鯨被獵殺
日本當地和國際保護鯨豚組織的資料顯示，日本每年有超過2萬條海豚和小型鯨魚 被漁民獵殺，過去20年，在日本水域被屠殺的鯨豚超過40萬條。大阪東岸的太地和 東京以南的Futo是日本主要以獵殺鯨豚為生的漁村，單是太地，去年已有1.8萬條� 𤧟b被漁船圍捕。
日本漁民會採用被指殘酷的「漁船圍捕」和「驅趕式」方法(Drive Fishery)獵殺鯨豚。由於海豚和鯨魚喜愛群居生活，漁民會先用鐵枝或魚叉等工具 敲打漁船，製造聲浪「打散」群居的鯨豚。接着，他們會同時由多艘漁船用魚網把 鯨豚圍住，迫使牠們游進內灣的淺水區域。漁民會把牠們捕捉上岸即時宰殺，部分 鯨豚被屠殺時仍然清醒。
日本活豚售價37萬港元
資料顯示日本捕捉活海豚去年售價少於約3萬港元，因供不應求，現時售價已急升1 0多倍至37萬多港元，部分會售予中國大連水族館。
香港海豚保育學會會長洪家耀表示，被屠殺的鯨豚品種包括樽鼻海豚、條紋海豚、 領航鯨、殺人鯨和偽虎鯨。牠們被趕進內灣後會被活生生屠宰，用來製成各種肉類 製品﹔年輕的海豚會被賣到水族館作表演或觀賞用途。他指出，由於海豚肉具豐富 蛋白質，日本人會把海豚肉製成肥料，為農作物施肥。
香港海豚保育學會呼籲市民寫信到日本領事館抗議。市民可到海豚保育學會網頁下 載抗議信(www.hkdcs.org)。

以下是小弟去年十二月中在這BBS上post的，以回應Forrest版主關於去年日本「海 豚大屠殺」的thread，可惜這條thread在年初觀鳥會電腦被人hack後已被刪去。 現在再post出來給大家分享。 願諸位鳥友繼續珍惜愛護這美麗的星球。功德無量。

亦有人說，吃鯨豚與吃豬牛羊雞鴨鵝魚沒分別，為何要禁止？（於廣州賣和吃穿山 甲、果子狸、禾花雀、狗肉的人也這麼說。）首先，鯨豚（還有穿山甲、禾花雀） 是瀕危動物，再這樣捕捉隨時會絕種。其次，漁民屠殺鯨豚的方法極之殘忍恐怖， 有良心的人一定不會支持。最後，這些事情反映我們人類到底是怎樣的動物。我們 是愛護珍惜大自然，以雀鳥、松鼠、蝴蝶、海豚、花草為朋友的仁者，還是為滿足 一已的私慾、口福而任意殺盡世間生命，還要用這樣殘暴的方法對待牠們的野蠻怪 獸？
事實上，吃少些肉對健康百利而無一害。據醫學研究，少吃肉多吃蔬果有助減低患 心臟病、大腸癌等頑疾的機會。日本沖繩縣的人常活到一百多歲，究其原因，他們 平日只吃蔬菜水果和少量的魚類。所以，問題並非「吃鯨豚與吃豬牛羊雞鴨鵝魚沒 分別，為何要禁止」，我們應倒過來問：「為何還要吃豬牛羊雞鴨鵝魚？」小弟明 白要全人類改吃素是很難和不切實際的事（小弟有偏食的壞習慣，食很少菜  ），但這應是解決發達國家健康問題的良方，更可避免以上提到的殘忍屠殺再 發生。
我們給自己起的生物學名是「智慧人種」Homo sapiens。現今環境問題日趨嚴重，有一成鳥類快將絕種，我們到底有多「智慧」，還看未來五十年。
小弟見日本這令人髮指的行為感到不安，故大發牢騷，希望各位不會嫌我長氣！  望諸位鳥友繼續愛護這美麗的大自然。
