There is an article (in Chinese) about animal release on HK Econ Times (Wed 12 July)
The eng summary is
An estimate shows that about 170,000 birds are released every year but almost half of them soon die afterwards. A KFBG Fauna Officer explained how the release of animals may result in unnecessary suffering, cruelty and may also threaten local wildlife and ecological balance. In some cases, fresh water fish are released to the sea where they will not survive. And in New Zealand, the "invasion" of European birds led to the extinction of certain native birds.
