Yes I can log on using Mac OS9.2 and Netscape 7.0 but as soon as I change pages in the BBS I find that I am no longer logged on as a member but as a guest. Explorer just bombs as soon as I open the BBS

I am not using Mac. So, I do not know what "crashes" you are talking about. I shall ask a friend to check. But the returning to GUEST account may be due to "cookie" problem. Or, it may be a problem of expiry in "cookie" record. I'm not too familiar with YaBB (perl). Webmaster can help to find out.

Thanks for your help The problem with Netscape 7.0 was the cookie setting. "enable all cookies" must be selected, but the problem with Explorer is completely different as it will crash straight after clicking the BBS button

Yes, YaBB use cookie to store some user information. For the crash issue, i guess it is related to some javascript and layer compatibility issue. I need somebody to help.

It's strange. If the HTML 4.01 and Javascript 1.2 cause problem, somebody report its working under MAC OS 9 but not OS 10. It is strange that higher version fails?! Black-Faced SpoonBill

Mac does have problems with some websites. Concerning this bbs: I use Mac OS 10.2 and have not tried to use 9.2 for this bbs. Internal explorer 5.?12 just crashes when it opens the bbs. Netscape 7.0 is working okay but I found that I could not see some old pictures in the photo gallery. It just did not seem to load them at all. The ie on windows 2000 at my office is working fine. Well Mac OS 10.x is basically unix, I don't know the underlying cause.

My friend also found failure with MAC OS X (10.1). The IE 5.2 software also exited with error in execution. He would ask his relative to try on 10.2. But his general comment about MAC OS X is "TERRIBLY BAD". MAC OS 9 is "quite stable" though. He had noticed "many" patches for MAC OS X and he is not going to track closely because it is wasting his precious time. In fact, he has re-installed the OS X again and again. In addition, from Microsoft's newsgroup and MacTopia, the following was noticed:- ---> QUOTE (msnews.microsoft.com : microsoft.public.mac.explorer dd 04/10/02) Two suggestions: Try re-enabling JavaScript in the Preferences, by going to Explorer -> Preferences. Go to Web Browser > Web Content. Under Active Content, check "Enable Scripting". You might also want to try downloading a copy of the latest Internet Explorer, version 5.2.2 for OS X: <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/DOWNLOAD/IE/ie5_osx.asp> -- Mickey Stevens Microsoft Mac MVP The Entourage Help Page: <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/> Please ask questions and reply within the newsgroup thread unless the reply is off-topic or an e-mail reply is requested within my post. On 10/3/02 7:30 AM, in article cf46a240.0210030430.16ae36e3@posting.google.com, "Timothy Grayson" <trdgrayson@hotmail.com> wrote: > I've been having problems with certain applications and websites and > have been told by the tech support and the webmasters that it is > apparently a java script problem. I'm tiring of having to use my colleague's PC to do my > expense reporting. > > Thanks > > TRDG ---> UNQUOTE I'm not familiar with MAC OS. But it is apparent that there is problem in IE 5 under OS X. Javascript is probably one notorious example. It is also astonished to learn from other threads that Internet Preference may corrupted on OS 10.1.5 plus IE 5.2.2. The Microsoft MAC MVP asked MAC users to be prepared to setting account preferences again. Good luck! ps : Sorry to interrupt your discussions. But I am interested in .....

GOOD NEWS!!! My friend did not encounter problem in viewing this board after updating IE to 5.2.2 yesterday night, even on the same Mac OS 10.1 platform. Please try to download the update from the captioned link. Good luck! BTW, did webmaster (NOT webslave!) do something to the PERL script to resolve the problem yesterday? Or is it merely a bug in Mac IE with version lower than 5.2.2?

Great! Congratulation! But I, non-Mac user, still do not understand why IE 5.X crashes if cookie is not enabled. Then, how can those guys browse this web board if he/she disables the cookie feature for security concern? Anyway, this is beyond the scope of this bird watching discussion board. Webmaster / Webslave has done a great job. More people can share the bird watching and environment preservation experience now. Oh! Should there be a warning message in the entry page for Mac user?
