Hi, My name is Tun Pin from Malaysia and I am new to the group. Been to Mai Po in 2000 and it was a great birding trip. I am visiting HK next year Jan. Plan to visit Mai Po on Mon 5Jan04. Does anyone know if Mai Po is open to public on that day? Thank for help and you may write to my email copsychus@yahoo.com Regards, Tun Pin

Mai Po is open to the public on weekends and public holidays, but you must book in advance. Please refer to WWF (HK)'s web site: http://www.wwf.org.hk/eng/maipo/introduction/visiting.html I'm not sure whether the HKBWS is organizing a trip to Mai Po on that day. If so it would be a better choice for dedicated bird watchers.

I went to Mai Po on 5 Jan. Thanks to members who responded to help and provided useful infor. I enjoyed it very much, but I wished I had got the better tide as in my previous trip. Also learnt later that I missed Oriental Stork which was spotted by someone on same day Some of the birds seen were: -BlackFacedSP(70, 25, 17 birds on 3 occassions) 2 showed leg tags. One hid left leg and showed right leg with Green tag. Another one had green on right leg, green+red+yellow on left leg) Was it tagged in Maipo? I had a photo of it. -EurasianSP(3 among 25 BFSB) -Tufted Duck(100+ in the furthest ponds) -Female Daurian RedStart(Prominent triangular spot on wing) -Asian Pied Starling (escapee?) -Dalmatian Pelican (3 from boardwalk hide) -Unidentified Aguila eagle( One perched on pole from boardwalk hide) Feel free to comment. Mai Po is still one of the best birding spots I have ever been. Will definately come again if I visit Hong Kong next time. Regards, Tun Pin
