Bird Photography 鳥類攝影技巧

 I have been practising several times but the outcome is not as good as expected. Few questions are always in my mind.
Should I hid all the time to wait a good moment? Or keeping moving to different location? Everytime, when I had a bit moment, they all fly away.
Should I use monopod or tripod? Handheld enough?
For the AF mode, should I use One spot, AL servo or...?
FYI, I now use 20D, 400F5.6 and 1.4X extender. Thanks for sharing.

Most of the pictures you see on the bulliten board are taken by photographers with many years experience. The first thing to learn is don't be upset if you can't match their photos. It is just a lot of hard practice.
I would suggest that you learn as much about the birds habits as possible. This way you can predict their next movement. The more you move around the greater the chance that you will get no shots.
As to the technicalities I am sure that KK or one of the other "gods of photography" will try to answer your questions

Bob answered the first part of your question well and I totally agree!
For the tech side, here is my answers ...
1. Use a sturdy tripod whenever possible. Monopod can be used where space is a premium but more care is required. For flight shots handheld with your 400/5.6 is possible.
2. Use Single-shot AF mode when subject is stationary. Use AI Servo AF with all AF points, 9 in the case of 20D, selected if subject is on a constant move, for example, bird in flight.
