Subject: "Environmental Guidance - Effective Monitoring of Our Environment" Workshop
Dear all,
Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden (KFBG) and Green Power will co-organise a half day workshop on "Environmental Guidance - Effective Monitoring of Our Environment". It will be held on 4 December 04 (Saturday) from 9:00-13:00 at the City University (Lecture Theatre 5) and will be conducted in Cantonese.
The aims of the workshop include:
(1) to introduce procedures of environmental and land use enforcement by the Government; and
(2) to facilitate the government's environmental monitoring through encouraging the public to report of land degradation and pollution.
Representatives from Environmental Protection Department, Lands Department, Planning Department and local environmental NGOs will present and share views on issues about environmental monitoring and how public can help in the process.
The details of the workshop program is shown in the attached Word document. If you are interested, please fill in the reply slip (see attached) and send it back to Green Power (fax: 2314 2661) by 26 November 2004.

「關心社區 環境，齊來認識和實踐有效的環境監察」工作坊
嘉道理農場暨植物園與綠色力量將於2004年12月4日(星期六)上午合辦「關心社區 環境，齊來認識和實踐有效的環境監察」工作坊，希望引起地區人士及市民對環境 破壞事件的關注，增加對本港環保法則的認識，以及如何有效參予環境監察，達致 保護我們社區的環境。
多年來，政府各部門及環保團體一直密切監察香港的環境質素，以防止各類型破壞 環境的事件發生，如砍樹、非法傾卸泥頭或挖掘事件等。然而，近年這些破壞事件 經常在偏遠的地點出現，發生時間亦難以預測，東涌河破壞事件就是一個眾所周知 的例子。這些事件，不單破壞自然環境的質素，更影響附近民居的衛生環境，與及 農民賴以為生的潔淨水源及土地。
可以說，保護環境是一個涉及社會各方面的切身問題，有賴大眾參與及支持。在這 工作坊內，我們邀請了環境保護署代表講解有關水質、空氣、噪音的問題，以及大 眾如何參與環境評估的工作；另外，地政總署及規劃署的代表，亦分別講解官地上 樹木的保護，以及土地使用的監察工作。同時，我們更邀請了西貢居民代表，分享 成功保護社區環境的經驗。工作坊的詳細資料可見此信函的附頁。
