Have seen the Dragonfly caught in mid-air & dragged to the ground & decapitated - then the wasp/hornet flies off with the head.   I know how painful the sting is. Last Sunday was sitting in my hide photographing a Whimbrel when the same type of wasp landed on my head & got caught between hide & hair & stung me. Had swelling on top of my head for 2 days.
