小翠之死 Dead C. Kfisher at Wetland Park - flew into glass
前個星期天，我做濕地公園的義工活動，發現一隻普通翠鳥死在地上，面向一個兩 面都是玻璃的房間，因此我懷疑牠是撞玻璃而死的。
在外國的博物館只要有大幅的玻璃幕牆，就會加上「猛禽貼紙」警告雀鳥不要撞上 去。
為什麼香港眾多的玻璃幕牆建築物卻偏偏選擇做透明的雀鳥陷阱呢?
不知道鳥會會不會為撞死撞傷的鳥類伸冤呢?

Some "falcons" are sticked on windows in Kadoorie Farm bldgs to avoid bird window collision.
We may have some spare ones here.

Maybe this is something that the HKBWS could sponsor, on one side we have a Falcon and the other side some facts about the HKBWS.
There are plenty of high rise buildings in Hong Kong

Yes, I share Jacky's concern.
Will birds fly into the glazing?
Are there better precautions than raptor stickers?

究竟鳥兒會不會一頭撞過去呢？
除了猛禽貼紙之外還有沒其他更有效的方法防止鳥撞？

I'm terribly sorry - the dead bird was actually found at the Hong Kong Wetland Park, NOT MPNR as I have put in the title previously.
Please accept my apology for the mistake. I must be more careful with the translation.

【 本 報 訊 】 香 港 濕 地 公 園 尚 未 開 幕 ， 已 流 下 「 第 一 滴 血 」 。 一 隻 普 通 翠 鳥 上 月 中 途 經 公 園 內 的 濕 地 探 索 中 心 ， 懷 疑 看 不 見 中 心 的 一 幅 玻 璃 幕 牆 ， 撞 著 玻 璃 而 死 。 發 現 鳥 屍 的 義 工 ， 不 滿 濕 地 公 園 的 設 計 沒 有 考 慮 到 雀 鳥 的 安 全 問 題 。 漁 農 自 然 護 理 署 則 辯 稱 ， 普 通 翠 鳥 死 因 未 明 ， 但 會 留 意 情 況 ， 以 便 作 出 檢 討 。 記 者 ： 蔡 元 貴
撞 死 鳥 事 件 發 生 於 九 月 中 ， 漁 護 署 表 示 ， 濕 地 公 園 職 員 在 濕 地 探 索 中 心 附 近 發 現 一 隻 鳥 屍 ， 中 心 樓 高 一 層 ， 外 牆 由 玻 璃 及 石 屎 組 成 。
發 言 人 說 ： 「 究 竟 隻 翠 鳥 係 點 樣 死 ？ 原 因 難 以 確 定 ， 我 o地 未 能 肯 定 佢 係 撞 玻 璃 死 o既。 」
目 擊 鳥 屍 的 鳥 友 則 表 示 ， 他 是 在 濕 地 公 園 內 參 加 義 工 活 動 時 發 現 鳥 屍 的 。 他 說 ， 翠 鳥 屍 首 躺 在 地 上 ， 面 向 的 濕 地 探 索 中 心 ， 外 牆 都 是 透 明 玻 璃 ， 因 此 懷 疑 牠 是 撞 玻 璃 而 死 的 。
玻 璃 貼 鷹 圖 可 防 止
雀 鳥 撞 及 玻 璃 幕 牆 死 亡 的 悲 劇 時 有 發 生 ， 他 質 疑 濕 地 公 園 為 何 偏 偏 選 擇 這 種 設 計 ， 造 成 雀 鳥 陷 阱 。
濕 地 公 園 位 於 天 水 圍 ， 鄰 近 米 埔 。 世 界 自 然 基 金 米 埔 自 然 保 護 區 經 理 楊 路 年 指 出 ， 玻 璃 幕 牆 的 確 會 為 雀 鳥 帶 來 危 險 ， 市 區 也 試 過 有 候 鳥 撞 及 玻 璃 幕 牆 大 廈 而 死 。 如 要 避 免 意 外 ， 可 以 在 玻 璃 上 貼 上 鷹 形 圖 案 ， 警 告 鳥 兒 ， 又 或 者 使 用 有 顏 色 或 反 光 的 玻 璃 。
漁 護 署 稱 個 別 事 件
除 了 濕 地 探 索 中 心 ， 濕 地 公 園 內 的 訪 客 中 心 也 有 玻 璃 外 牆 。 漁 護 署 表 示 ， 翠 鳥 之 死 是 個 別 事 件 ， 但 該 署 會 留 意 情 況 ， 如 果 再 有 類 似 事 故 ， 會 考 慮 在 玻 璃 上 貼 上 一 些 東 西 ， 防 止 雀 鳥 亂 衝 亂 撞 。
香 港 濕 地 公 園 的 設 立 ， 是 為 了 彌 償 因 天 水 圍 都 市 發 展 而 失 去 的 濕 地 。 香 港 濕 地 公 園 是 一 個 集 自 然 護 理 、 教 育 及 旅 遊 用 途 於 一 身 的 世 界 級 景 點 。 整 個 濕 地 公 園 佔 地 六 十 一 公 頃 ， 工 程 預 計 明 年 初 完 成 。

In Switzerland, even bus stops with glass windows or glass fences have a LOT of raptor stickers on them, not to mention the giant skyscrapers.
It's a pity these stickers weren't used in Hong Kong with so many glass towers.
在瑞士，即使是有玻璃窗的巴士站和玻璃造的圍欄都貼有很多猛禽剪影，更何況是 摩天大廈。
很遺憾香港沒有人這樣做。

31/10/05 東方 Oriental Daily
Two flocks of birds, 6 canaries and 5 Chinese Bulbuls, were found dead in the streets at Sai Wan and Wan Chai respectively yesterday. The canaries flew into a window at no. 332 Des Voeux Road. The Chinese Bulbuls were picked up outside Harcourt House on Jaffe Road. All were picked up by AFCD for testing for bird flu.

【 本 報 訊 】 西 環 及 灣 仔 昨 日 先 後 發 現 有 六 隻 金 絲 雀 及 五 隻 白 頭 翁 橫 屍 街 頭 ， 惹 來 禽 流 感 驚 魂 ， 漁 護 署 職 員 不 敢 鬆 懈 ， 穿 上 全 副 武 裝 ， 將 雀 屍 檢 走 ， 正 調 查 牠 們 是 否 因 撞 向 大 廈 玻 璃 窗 跌 下 ， 抑 或 帶 有 禽 流 感 病 毒 而 死 亡 。
昨 晨 十 一 時 許 ， 德 輔 道 西 三 三 二 號 安 慶 樓 ， 有 住 客 聽 到 窗 外 傳 來 聲 響 ， 發 現 一 群 金 絲 雀 集 體 撞 向 外 牆 的 玻 璃 窗 ， 跌 落 地 下 死 亡 ， 玻 璃 窗 上 則 留 有 小 量 血 漬 。
由 於 恐 怕 死 雀 帶 有 禽 流 感 病 毒 ， 警 員 俱 戴 上 口 罩 ， 並 且 用 紙 箱 將 雀 屍 覆 蓋 ， 禁 止 途 人 走 近 。 漁 護 署 職 員 到 場 ， 穿 上 全 套 保 護 衣 物 ， 戴 上 手 套 用 膠 袋 將 雀 屍 檢 走 。
另 昨 午 三 時 許 ， 一 名 姓 徐 市 民 途 經 灣 仔 謝 斐 道 夏 愨 大 廈 對 出 時 ， 先 後 發 現 五 隻 「 白 頭 翁 」 橫 屍 地 上 。 至 於 該 批 白 頭 翁 是 否 撞 向 大 廈 玻 璃 幕 牆 ， 抑 或 因 禽 流 感 病 毒 病 亡 ， 有 待 交 由 漁 護 署 化 驗 。
另 昨 傍 晚 六 時 許 ， 旺 角 西 洋 菜 南 街 行 人 專 用 區 ， 有 途 人 發 現 一 隻 麻 雀 陳 屍 路 中 ， 警 方 接 報 到 場 ， 通 知 食 環 署 人 員 將 雀 屍 檢 查 。
漁 護 署 發 言 人 稱 ， 由 前 日 下 午 五 時 至 昨 日 下 午 為 止 ， 共 檢 獲 廿 一 隻 雀 鳥 屍 體 。 漁 護 署 由 本 月 廿 七 日 起 全 權 負 責 所 有 死 雀 的 處 理 工 作 ， 並 呼 籲 市 民 有 發 現 時 致 電 該 署 熱 線 1823 。
