Hi all, I have an idea to set up a birdwatching club in primary school for all kids in limited budget. Any idea and advice proivde ? I have provided two lessons for the kids. They felt interested and wanted to know more. However, I am the beginner also. Where can I get some resource (free of charge is desired) , including tutors, professional advice, birdwatching curriculum design and other. Thanks for your advice first. Hope our next generation love the nature from their childhood.

Start simple and free. Start with the basic species published by the AFCD leaflets. That will keep your students busy for at least a few months. It is now the start of a new financial year and see if you can buy a spotting scope in time for the next season of migrating birds. A few bird guides to share among your students will not cost too much either. My two cents.

thanks...i have bought a spotting scope 100mm for students... it"s less expensive..about 2000...image not bad...some p.2 students (7 years old) can identify the spotted dove, red_whiskered bulbul, chinese bulbul and tree sparrow. I have designed the birds checklist for them. I tried to teach them how to identify these four kind of birds by their wonderful voice. After that, I will provide more species for them. I want to buy a few bino for them but budget is tight.. Any suggestion ? How about the brand ' Phantom' or 'Nikula' ?

The ID books are good enough for your purpose. I would guess primary students like activity based learning more. There are a few more book published by the AFCD with further contents on bird life cycles, habitats etc. They may form good materials for activities. You can be as creative as you like!

Also check out Comos Books as they have a large selection of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department books at a very attractive price.

Great reference Karl, an online birdwatching club for primary schools would be a great hit with the children and parents. At least parents would know they were viewing something educational not games or porn. Maybe you or another HKBWS computer guy could come up with a basic web design for schools and they could all link together to exchange bird sightings

Send me a private email with your details and I will arrange to make some dvd's of my video's for the school students. I have bought an adapter from UK so that I am able to connect my Canon 300MM t2.8 FD lens to either my Betacam, Canon XL2 or Arriflex 16SR2 film camera. The adaptor doesn't have any optics so the quality is very good but unfortunately the price of the adaptor was also very good
