010 Great Cormorant 鸕茲鳥 Mai Po Nature Reserve 米埔自然保護區 The Great Cormorants are in their thousands wintering here at MPNR right now. In fact there are too many of them that people sometime fails to appreciate this 'black beauty'. This shot was taken early last week at MPNR. The constrasty BG provides an artistic feel and the open bill of the bird in flight is a bonus ... Best kk ---------------- http://www.geocities.com/kkhui_001

HI KK, VERY GOOD HANDLING OF CONTRAST IN SUCH TRICKY LIGHT CONDITIONS. IF YOU ADD 1 STOP EXPOSURE TO THE UNDERNEATH OF WING TO MAKE IT SLIGHTLY GREYISH DO YOU THINK THE BACKGROUND WILL BE OVEREXPOSED AND WHITE-WASHED OUT ? WOULD YOU MIND TELLING ME HOW TO METER THIS BLACK BIRD WITH YOUR EOS 1V ? WHAT ABOUT FOCUSING ? BERNARD.

| Bernard, 1. Yes, the white dotted BG would be over exposed somewhat. The shot would in fact benefit from the use of fill flash in this case though to bring out some underwing detail. Exposure latitude for pro slide film is small and you have little room for error! 2. Some technical data of the shot: EOS-1v, EF500/4L IS + EF1.4x on tripod w/ Wimberley Head Fuji RDP III [+1 push], incident light metering at + 1/3, AI Servo AF with 45 points Best kk --------------
