House Crows occur in quite significant numbers in certain parts of HK, particularly in central Kowloon. If you see these birds, please submit details of your sighting to the Records Committee. We need only to know the location, the number of birds, the date and any behaviour. Simply enter the records into an Excel file with a separate column for each category.

The reason we are particularly interested in monitoring this species is that in some other countries of the world, House Crows are a pest responsible for heavy predation of eggs and chicks of breeding birds, spreading rubbish and, because they are aggressive, for dominating and ousting local corvid species. For these reasons, the presence of House Crows in large numbers in HK is undesirable, and it is important for us to quantify the problem through recording locations and numbers of birds.

House Crows have spread to HK via cargo shipping. The most likely sources appear to be places such as Singapore, where there is already a fairly large population that arrived there in the same way. House Crows are native to India and adjacent parts of south Asia.

I have seen once over 100 house crows congregated near Yau Yat Chuen in winter. They are abundant over KLN Tong and loose flocks numbering to 20 are common.

That's interesting Koel, but please enter all your sightings into an Excel file, including date, place, number of birds, behaviour, as mentioned in my mail.

These and any other records can be sent to me at:

Yes , i have also seen over 120 House Crow in Kowloon Tsui Park on 13 Aug,2001 . All the crow were flying in the sky and it is so amazing .

For my own view , House Crow is extremely common in Kowloon City District especially the Kowloon Tsui Park which is the main habitat for them . Some individuals have reached to the North of the Morse Park .

Recently (possible2002-2003) , Some individuals spread to the near district like Mong Kok(Boundary Street) . Therefore , there are many crows  that can be find in there including Mong Kok Stadium , Tai Hang Tung Estate and Shek Kip Mei district .

Furthermore , i have spotted three crow near the Tai Hang Tung Playground . Two of them seem like a fledged juvenile because they shaked their wings to the possible adult . At that moment , i didn't have the binoculars to identify those bird . May be the case is one of their behaviour like chasing female . However , i am not sure .

I don't know the breeding status of House Crow in HK . Although it is uncertain for me , i have seen some of the crow carrying food  or nest materials . However , there are no juveniles being found .

My school is near Kowloon City , so i have some experience on them in Kowloon City District and have the above view .

I have done the bird report from 1998 to 2002 . But i think it is too late ? Isn't it ?
Do you still use it ? If yes ,  I will send it to you later .

It's never too late! Pls send records up to 2002 to me as soon as you can. For 2003, wait until after the end of the year.

Thanks,
