This is one of the very interesting larks at Long Valley in 1999. I considered these to be Northern Skylarks based on structure (long primary projection and tail) and also the white outer tail feathers and tips to the secondaries. However, the overall pluamge tones are quite unlike all previous Northern Skylarks I have seen, and fit Oriental better. However, the birds were very similar to photographs of the race japonica of Northern Skylark which is treated by some authorities as a distinct species Japanese Skylark. I consider these to be japonica.
