Citrine Wagtail 黃頭鶺鴒

256 Citrine Wagtail 黃頭鶺鴒 Luk Keng 鹿頸 25/12/2002 Is this a juvenile yellow wagtail? I saw it in Luk Keng on 25.12.02. Thanks for any advice.

Looks like a Citrine Wagtail to me. Note the yellow lores and long yellow brow

If you wish to know more about identification of Citrine Wagtail & Yellow Wagtail, please look up the article "Field Identification of Citrine Wagtail and Races of Yellow Wagtail in HK" in Hong Kong Bird Report 1995 at p.210. There are good photo of Citrine and the 3 races of Yellow Wagtails too. If you wish to get a copy of the Report, please contact - secretary@hkbws.org.hk

It also appear to me as a Citrine Wagtail. Other than the yellow lore mentioned by Erica, one can also see the slight curve down of the supercilium (eyebrow) behind the ear covert. I believe most yellow wagtail do not have any curve down. Please also note the very small white patch just below the eye which extend to part of the ear covert. To me, that is a very good indication of Citrine Wagtail. One other point is that this bird has a boarder wing bar than most yellow wagtail, and this is also a good feather of Citrine Wagtail.
